No stranger to controversy, BritArtist Damien Hirst popped up in our papers earlier this year when a study by scientific journal Analytical Methods suggested that the works Away from the Flock (1994) and the infamous Mother and Child Divided showed formaldehyde readings of above the legal limit.

However after a recent cooperative investigation with Science Ltd. it has been confirmed that there was never any risk to the public, Professor Pier Giorgio Righetti - who co-authored the report Remote Sensing of Formaldehyde Fumes in Indoor Environments - has admitted his findings were unreliable and inaccurate.

With Damien Hirst’s series of formaldehyde sculptures, and his comment on the fragility of life and our reluctance to confront death (food for thought…) actually not leaking a hazardous carcinogenic gas after all, we can breathe easy once more!
