Jessica Zoob wants you to paint for joy

For Jessica Zoob, painting is an outlet when things get a little too much. Hoping that it may also be for you during this time when the coronavirus has many of us feeling down, detached and lethargic, she’s created a competition to encourage you to pick up a paintbrush simply for the joy of it. Here’s how you can get involved…

She says: “It is so hard to know what to do or say in these strange and frightening times, but I know that whenever I have been in a dark place or struggling I have found painting to be my lifeline. Strangely, it heals me and then often people who see those paintings say it heals them too, which is wonderful.

“I am hoping this competition might help you find some distraction. I would love to share that method of escape with as many people as possible.”

So, what are the rules?

This is all about embracing your creativity to hopefully help you cope better with the stress and isolation caused by Covid-19. With this in mind, there are no rules. You can paint on any surface and with any paint. What’s most important is that you enjoy the process.

Jessica adds: “Play your happiest music, dance around and remember what it felt like to paint when you were a child. For the sheer pleasure of it, with no judgement.

“Even if you haven’t picked up a paintbrush since you were a child, please have a go. You never know, you might discover a passion, or at the very least have a fun distraction for a few hours!”

To enter, paint a picture entitled "Joy", and email a photograph of your work to Jessica at jessica@jessicazoob.com before 12pm on May 16. This competition is open to all ages and all abilities (parents who are home schooling, you are welcome!). Full details can be found here. If you’re looking for ideas, you’ll find some of Jessica’s own works in progress here.

The winner will receive this original oil painting by Jessica entitled "Sunlit Water" (oil on board, 30cm x 23cm), from her Inspired by Asia Collection. Three runners up will also be able to choose an A2 print on paper. The winners will be announced on May 16, so what are you waiting for?
