“Are you in love? No, I’m in Miami.”
With characteristic wit, Italian artist Pietro Terzini has taken his unmistakable language to Miami, transforming the exterior of Cassina’s Miami Design District store during Design Miami.
The site-specific installation continues Terzini’s collaboration with the Italian design house, placing one of his typically direct phrases across the building’s landmark exterior column. Playful at first glance, the words carry a sharper observation beneath them — questioning the relationship between emotion, image, place and status in contemporary culture.
It is territory Terzini knows well.
His work borrows from the language of advertising, fashion and social media, using short statements that feel instantly familiar before revealing something more reflective. Love, ambition, identity and self-image are recurring themes, communicated with a simplicity that makes the work both immediate and distinctly of its time.
The Miami installation coincides with the latest chapter of ME FROM OUTSIDE, Terzini’s collaboration with Cassina first introduced during Milan Design Week earlier this year.
Two new limited-edition mirrors — You are art and No risk no story — extend the project, each produced in an edition of 100. Here, the mirror becomes more than a design object. Words are placed directly across the viewer’s reflection, turning the act of looking at ourselves into part of the work.
It is an idea that sits naturally between art and design, but also between the physical and digital worlds. Terzini understands how an artwork can exist as an object, an experience and an image destined to travel far beyond the space in which it was first encountered.
Against the energy and spectacle of Miami, the result feels particularly fitting.
