Eliza Arricale was born and raised in Japan to a Brazilian mother and a Japanese father.
Her family relocated to Singapore when she was 8. All of these different cultures helped
her form a unique aesthetic to her art.
Eliza majored in Graphics Design at the Rhode Island School of Design. It was during her
foundation year where she experimented with charcoal under the tutelage of professor
Victor Lara. This was the moment Eliza cemented her unique style of Sculpt with Charcoal.
Over the years, Eliza explored advertising, fashion and interior design. In 2020 during the
global pandemic, Eliza moved to London with her young family and founded Studio Arricale with her husband. A project management and furniture consultancy firm for high-end residential and hospitality projects. Together, they've sourced and designed the furniture for Langan's Brasserie and Chucs restaurant.
During her time at Studio Arricale is when she started to produce her artwork again. Eliza is now excited to share her work, Sculpt with Charcoal.
“At the start of a drawing, I am unsure of what the piece is going to look like. I try to
minimize looking at the paper so interesting marks start to form. I trust in the process
and allow the portrait to appear.
I want to capture facial expressions that last a glimpse of a second and now frozen in
time. I welcome the viewers to develop a personal encounter with the portraits I create.”
