Tracey Emin's Christmas Tree
Renowned for drawing on subjects intimately bound with her own biography Tracey Emin heralds the start of the festive season on Mount Street, Mayfair with her design for The Connaught Hotel’s Christmas tree. A modern-day expressionist, her beautiful and intimate installation exists in tribute to her mother with a poem wrapped around the tree in lights, in her signature scrawl. It reads:
What I give to you is all I have
An open wanting
Deep in the layers of my heart
And in return I catch
your smile
The greatest gift of all
Commenting on the collaboration, Emin said, “The Connaught is one of my favorite hotels in the entire world. I have had wonderful times there, my favorite being when I stayed there with my mum before going to Buckingham Palace to receive my CBE. As my mum and I left the hotel, the staff at The Connaught lined up either side of the lobby to give us a right royal send off.”
The tree will stand outside The Connaught, on Carlos Place, where it can be freely viewed by passers-by during the festive period.
