Responding to the cities perpetually shifting landscape, the exhibition weaves a treasure trove of contemporary sculptures between the towers and historic alleyways of London’s oldest working district. The juxtaposition of cutting-edge art in this renowned urban environment plays on the identity of the area to uncover the layers of history often dwarfed by its iconic modern architecture.

As part of the centenary celebrations for women’s suffrage, nine female artists are included the roster of art-world heavyweights with work on show. Amongst them Tracey Emin lights up a walkway in the shadow of the Gherkin with her fluorescent pink ‘Your Lips Moved Across My Face’, while Amanda Lwin’s lines highlight the underground infrastructure in the City in Leadenhall Market. Elsewhere Marina Abramovic’s ‘Tree’ draws in the viewer as it emits the distorted repetition of birdsong. We also recommend seeking out is Sarah Lucas’ life-size Clydesdale horse Perceval (2006), it’s her first piece of public art, and a powerful homage to English culture.
